The historic Olivers Lodge complex has opened a new chapter in its fascinating history, undergoing an authentic restoration, reflecting its significant place in the chronicles of the Central Otago region.

The original stone complex, located in Clyde’s historic precinct, was built by Benjamin Naylor in 1869 as a general store, servicing the prospectors who sought their fortunes during the Otago gold rush. Today, in recognition of its outstanding heritage value, Olivers is protected by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust with a priority category one classification.

Inspired by the past, owners Andrea and David Ritchie are sensitively restoring the buildings including an elegant homestead, the old store, coach sheds, stables and barns. Landscaping highlights the original central courtyard and gardens.

Eleven rooms, divided into Stables and Lodge accommodation, superbly blend the old with the new creating a contemporary ambience integrally linked with bygone days. The renowned Olivers Restaurant will reopen once its refurbishment is complete.

The Olivers restoration is breathing new life into one of the region’s most striking heritage developments. A stay at this distinctively Central Otago property is a unique boutique accommodation experience and a must for those cycling the Otago Rail Trail.

This magnificent cluster of historic buildings, which was such a destination in the 80's has found saviours in new owners David and Andrea Ritchie.

Working closely with the Historic Places Trust and their conservation architect they have created luxurious accommodation cleverly combining the rusticity of the buildings with contemporary comfort.

As well as the genteel elegance of the interior suites, all with ensuite bathrooms, some disabled accessible and some with baths, the 'outbuildings' house a range of accommodation also ensuite.  The three stables, the Coach House, the Soap Factory and the Smoke House have all been transformed into sumptuous, visually stimulating lodgings.

Andrea's artistic flair has found expression in interior decoration, and the couple's passion for their project is obvious in every room. Historical maps and original art adorn the walls and a collection of books are available for the guest's pleasure.

Comprehensive information about the project is available with an album of before and after photographs leaving one astounded by the Ritchies vision and fortitude.

Olivers is set to become once again the heart of Clyde with the next phase of the project the development of a wine bar and restaurant in the once high profile restaurant space on the main street. A cinema, apartments and retail and restaurants are also being developed in close proximity making Clyde an increasingly desirable destination, in its own right.
