Special Offers

25 Jan - 17 Feb 2013 - headland SCULPTURE ON THE GULF is New Zealand’s leading contemporary outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Designer luxury hotel suites, each totally private with panoramic ocean views. Private all day dining for hotel guests is a wonderful way to make the most of the hotel's beautiful design, architecture, art and the local surrounds, as well as the beautiful bay and ocean views. Walk on the beach, read a book in the sun, relax and be pampered.

Superlatives are bandied about liberally in the tourism industry, but The Boatshed deserves all the accolades one can attribute.
Host Jonathan Scott describes himself as a ’born butler’ and the level of service is testament to the fact that this is his vocation.
Discreetly positioned above Little Oneroa the Boatshed has been built on the site of the Scott family bach.  Designed by Jonathan’s architect Father it has all the elements of a bach (with a dollop of Cape Cod), deliberately purveying the feeling that it evolved in stages. The Lighthouse, with its spiral staircase is in three levels and is supremely romantic, with a view out over the ocean.  A service lift allows delivery of meals so privacy is assured.  The Bridge, again with a view to swoon over, is upstairs and is superbly luxurious.  The three ‘boatsheds’ are light and airy with a private louvred outdoor seating areas. Two renovated bungalows complete the accommodation, superbly furnished with the same level of elegance and simplicity.
Guests are initially greeted in an entry area which divulges none of the spectacular view just metres away. An array of things nautical including one of Jonathan’s early craft adorn the walls and great books beckon.  The spiral staircase to the lofty lighthouse looks for all the world like a concrete water tank making it an interesting feature in this communal area of the hotel.
Dining at The Boatshed is an occasion, with most guests opting to do so.  A gloriously large and well tended vegetable garden furnishes the kitchen with the majority of fresh produce for the entire season, herbs, salad, some 40 varieties of tomatoes to name but a few.  Trays of seedlings at different stages of development illustrate the work and energy devoted.
Our advice, create an occasion and allow yourself to revel in the sheer delight of The Boatshed.
