Wine & Cuisine

One of the highlights at Chalet Eiger is the culinary experience. Veerapon is a talented Thai Chef and her dinner selections change daily according to guests' preferences and the season. She uses the freshest New Zealand produce, our own home-grown organic vegetables and a selection of spices from the Far East.
The cuisine is a fusion of Pacific and Thai influences. If you have any culinary preferences or dietary requirements please let us know at time of booking and we will try our best to suit your needs and adopt recommendations into the preparation of your meal. Veerapon can tailor food to suit all taste palates, from those who like it very mild to the brave who love it as hot as it can be.
A fabulous culinary Thai gourmet dinner is optional but highly recommended at $55 per person (please note that dinner surcharge of $50 pp will be added on 25th and 31st December).

Taupo, the hub of the exhilarating Central Plateau area is a superb destination all year round.
Watersports and hiking in the summer and snowsports in the winter make the region a tourist magnet in the North Island New Zealand.  Taupo is also a perfect half way point in the trip between Auckland and Wellington and a great position from which to explore  Waikato, Rotorua and Hawkes Bay to the east.
The unpretentious comfort of purpose built luxury accommodation Chalet Eiger, with its appropriate nod to the Alpine theme, lends itself to an extended relaxing stay.  Situated at Acacia Bay, a little to the west of Taupo Township the Chalet is private and quiet but within minutes of the array of restaurants and retail options available in vibrant Taupo.  More locally, in the Acacia Bay Village,   there is a café/ restaurant, but more importantly hosts Pon and Nevin offer a comprehensive array of gorgeous Thai fusion dishes for dinner and have an impressive selection of beverages including a single malt collection hard to rival.  Nevin has spent considerable time in corporate positions in Asia, promoting New Zealand produce such as honey and kiwifruit and has a remarkable photographic record of his time there.
We suggest you put aside a few days to settle in and enjoy this exceptional opportunity to enjoy superb hospitality and comfort.

Just north of Taupo Town you will see an Acacia Bay sign, if you are traveling from the South this will be a left turn and from the North a right. After around 7 km turn right at Poihipi Road (sign-posted Acacia Bay), then turn left into Acacia Bay Rd after 200 meters. You will drive through a new built up suburb called Vaucluse. Follow Acacia Bay Road for about 3km.

Follow the signs to Acacia Bay. You will go through an open road speed limit straight part (100km/hour) and then pass through an archway saying, 'Welcome to Acacia Bay'.
On your left will be a small group of shops, a plant nursery, a dairy and a little brasserie called 'The Bay'. You are still traveling on Acacia Bay Road.
Follow straight on after these shops ... (do not take the left curve where it says Acacia Bay Road), carry on just a little further, the road will now say Wakeman Road and at this junction there will be a road going up the hill on your right, called Mapara Road. (This is the second road on the right after the shops).
Turn up the hill into Mapara Road, continue up to the top of the hill and just over the brow on your left is Gillespie Place. Turn left into Gillespie Place and continue down the road.
You will reach a V, where one road goes to the left and one goes to the right. Take the right road and drive to the end, where you will see our sign.
