If you have ever wanted the perfect escape, Takou River provides the answer! The two purpose designed River Cottages and Lodge are set amid 5 acres of sub-tropical gardens bounded by the peaceful Takou River. The beautiful deserted sandy beaches at Takou Bay are just a short paddle downstream.

Both cottages have their own romantic alfresco claw foot baths perched on the deck of the cottage or at the private Summer House hidden in the gardens.  I admire the hosts Ian and Anna's passion for travel and the environment evident from the beautiful recycled timber floors, artifacts from their work and travel, and the thousands of native trees which they have planted while converting their 150 acre property to organic status.

Each cottage comprises two en suite double bedrooms opening directly onto the lawns;  a light, airy open plan kitchen, living and dining area with private sundeck and cosy wood fires. The larger north facing Lodge has stunning views across the lily ponds, lawns and gardens to the river and features a cosy wood fire and indoor spa bath as well as a beautifully appointed kitchen and soaring cathedral ceilings.

The Cottages and Lodge were so quiet and peaceful I never wanted to leave. I had plenty of time to enjoy long walks through the lush sub-tropical gardens, paddle along the river and dream or read beside the ponds. Kayaks and canoes are available for guests' use, ideal for heading down the river to the beautiful and deserted beach close by at Takou Bay.
