This self-catered lodge could not be closer to the world famous Tongariro River. The famous Major Jones Fishing Pool is a stones throw away directly across the road.
Waimarama Fishing Lodge provides luxury accommodation for up to eight people in both the main house and the romantic cottage in the garden.
All guest rooms are beautifully furnished with the finest linens, goose down duvets, the master room has all the wow factor with full ensuite marble bathroom. The showers rate a special mention. Piping hot water cascades from overhead, reminiscent of standing under a waterfall - fantastic! It was not long before we settled in with the complimentary bottle of wine in front of the glorious open fire that had been lit for us.
The fully equipped kitchen is a chef's paradise. However it is the library that holds our fascination, full of historic books collected over many years by the homes first owner, Dr Ron Kennedy. Our fishing guide was there to greet us at dawn and soon we were flicking our lines, attempting to drop the flies in the right place.
Waimarama Fishing Lodge is not all about fishing however and we spent the next few days hiking, mountain biking in the Tongariro National Park and relaxing with a book in the garden. It really was worth the journey to call Waimarama Lodge ours for a few days.
